RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s military leadership on Thursday extended heartfelt felicitations to the nation on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer, marking the country’s historic nuclear achievement.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, congratulated the people of Pakistan on this significant national day.
The services chiefs stated that Youm-e-Takbeer commemorates the landmark events of May 28, 1998, when Pakistan successfully conducted nuclear tests and emerged as a nuclear power, restoring strategic equilibrium in South Asia.
They described the achievement as a symbol of national unity, determination and the unwavering resolve to defend the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and dignity.
The military leadership paid tribute to the visionary political leadership, distinguished scientists, engineers, armed forces and the people of Pakistan whose collective efforts made the historic accomplishment possible.
The ISPR statement emphasized that Pakistan’s strategic capability remains a sacred trust and continues to serve as a guarantor of peace, stability and credible deterrence in the region.
Reaffirming their commitment to national defence, the armed forces pledged to continue working for the country’s security, stability and prosperity.
“On this historic occasion, the nation renews its commitment to unity, vigilance, resilience and dedication towards a stronger and prosperous Pakistan,” the statement added.
Pakistan conducted its nuclear tests in the Chagai district of Balochistan on May 28, 1998, in response to India’s nuclear tests earlier that month, becoming a declared nuclear power and reinforcing strategic balance in the region.
