LAHORE: The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has warned of possible high flooding in the Chenab and Jhelum rivers as widespread heavy rainfall is expected across India, Kashmir, and northern Pakistan during the coming days.
According to the FFD, the Chenab River is likely to experience high flood levels at Maralla Headworks due to anticipated downpours between July 20 and 24. The Jhelum River is also expected to witness high flooding near Mangla Dam.
The division further cautioned that the Kabul River and nearby nullahs could also swell significantly during the wet spell. In addition, flooding is expected in several major drains connected to the Jhelum and Chenab rivers.
Authorities have also warned of flash floods in local streams and nullahs across Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, northeastern Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, and northeastern Balochistan.
The Met Office said persistent heavy rainfall may trigger urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Multan, and Faisalabad between July 20 and 23.
