Maryam Nawaz flags crime surge, questions Safe City effectiveness

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of the increasing crime rate in the province, calling the situation “regrettable” despite the presence of the Safe City project.

The chief minister convened a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation and expressed displeasure over the failure to control crime in Sheikhupura and Faisalabad, reprimanding the concerned officials.

She directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to enhance coordination with the Crime Control Department (CCD) to improve enforcement and curb criminal activities.

Maryam Nawaz termed the rise in crime “alarming and unacceptable,” stressing the need for immediate and effective measures to restore public safety.
