LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has deposited Rs27.194 million with the provincial government against expenses incurred for the official aircraft used during her recent private visit to London, according to payment documents.
The amount of Rs27,194,004 was deposited through a Bank of Punjab cheque into the Punjab government’s treasury account. A pay-in slip dated September 17, 2026, was issued by the Valencia Branch of the National Bank of Pakistan.
The payment comes after the Punjab government maintained that the chief minister would personally cover the cost of using the government aircraft for her London trip.
Maryam Nawaz travelled to London last week to attend her daughter Mahnoor’s graduation ceremony before returning to Lahore. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari had earlier said the chief minister had paid the expenses of the private trip herself.
The aircraft bill had reportedly undergone revisions before the final amount was determined. Reports said an initial bill of Rs29.366 million was subsequently reduced to Rs28.038 million and then revised again to Rs27.194 million.
The use of the provincial government aircraft for the private visit had triggered criticism and questions from opposition figures, including a Punjab Assembly member who sought details of the expenditure and the legal basis for using the aircraft.
The provincial information minister, however, rejected claims that the trip had been financed from public funds, saying Maryam Nawaz had borne the expenses from her own pocket.
The aircraft involved is a Gulfstream G500 manufactured in 2019, which has also drawn public attention since its acquisition by the Punjab government.
