BJP Senior Leader labels Indian Muslim Colonel as “Sister of Terrorists”

BHOPAL: Kunwar Vijay Shah, the Tribal Welfare Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has come under scrutiny following a controversial remark regarding Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

During a public event at Mahu in Indore district, Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in responding to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. However, his comment sparked a political uproar due to its sectarian undertones.

While briefing the media about Operation Sindoor, a military operation against Pakistan, Shah stated that the Prime Minister had sent a “sister from the same community” as those in Pakistan to avenge the Kashmir terror strike.

The comment was interpreted by many as a reference to Indian military women, specifically Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and was seen as inappropriate and divisive.

Political Backlash

The opposition Congress sharply condemned Shah’s remarks. On social media platform ‘X’, Congress leaders accused Shah of referring to Indian Army officers as “sisters of terrorists,” claiming this dishonors women in uniform and undermines the dignity of the armed forces.

“The brave daughters of our army are sisters of terrorists—this disgraceful statement was made by MP minister Vijay Shah. Such remarks are an insult to our proud and disciplined army,” the Congress post stated.

Jitu Patwari, Madhya Pradesh Congress president, demanded Shah’s immediate removal from the state cabinet. He warned that failure to act would suggest the cabinet’s endorsement of Shah’s divisive comments, potentially harming communal harmony.

Meanwhile, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a distinguished officer of the Indian Army, briefed the media on Operation Sindoor, detailing the Indian military’s response to Pakistani actions and the losses incurred by India during the operation. Her professional conduct and the military’s strategic efforts remain a focus amid the controversy.
