LAHORE: A police officer has been accused of allegedly sexually assaulting a mentally challenged girl inside Lahore’s Ghaziabad police station, prompting authorities to suspend the entire station staff pending an investigation.
According to police officials, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran allegedly brought the girl from her home to the police station on a motorcycle after informing her family that she was required for questioning in a case.
Police said the officer allegedly took the girl into a room inside the station, where the reported assault occurred.
In response, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran ordered the suspension of all personnel posted at Ghaziabad police station, including the station house officer (SHO), two sub-inspectors, eight assistant sub-inspectors, front desk officials and other staff members, bringing the total number of suspended personnel to 78.
The DIG said the sweeping action was taken due to serious administrative lapses, inadequate supervision and failure to ensure accountability within the police station.
He stressed that all activities taking place inside a police station should remain under the direct oversight of the SHO. Following the suspensions, Ali Zaib Dastgir has been appointed as the new SHO of Ghaziabad police station while investigations into the allegations continue.
