KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved a 7.05% increase in water and sewerage charges collected by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) for the 2026-27 financial year.
The revised tariff has been made effective from July 1, 2026, according to an official notification published in the Sindh Government Gazette on August 10.
The increase was approved by the KW&SC Board and is based on the average Consumer Price Index (CPI). It applies to both retail and bulk consumers across different categories.
For residential consumers, monthly charges will continue to be calculated according to the size of the property’s plot. The revised schedule also specifies fixed monthly rates for commercial establishments, including shops, business centres and other commercial properties.
This is the second significant increase in KWSC charges in the past two years. The corporation had previously raised its monthly tariffs by around 23% in September 2024.
The latest adjustment comes as KWSC seeks to strengthen its revenue position and secure additional funding for the operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of Karachi’s water supply and sewerage networks.
The corporation said the additional revenue was necessary to meet the growing demands of the city’s expanding population and sustain essential civic services.
The tariff hike, however, comes amid continuing concerns over Karachi’s water shortages, ageing sewerage infrastructure and maintenance problems.
KWSC maintains that the revised charges are intended to improve service delivery and support the long-term financial sustainability of the city’s water and sewerage system.
