KARACHI: Health authorities have confirmed another mpox infection in Karachi, bringing the city’s total number of reported cases to 11.
According to hospital officials, the latest patient is a 35-year-old man from Mohabbat Nagar in Landhi, who has been admitted to the isolation ward at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital (SIDH) NIPA.
The patient visited the hospital on Saturday after developing symptoms associated with the virus. Medical staff conducted laboratory tests, and a PCR analysis later confirmed the infection.
Officials said the individual had no recent history of international travel, prompting health authorities to investigate the possible source of local transmission.
With this latest diagnosis, the number of mpox patients treated at SIDH NIPA has reached eight.
The development follows the recent confirmation of another case involving a 40-year-old resident of Gulistan-e-Johar, who also tested positive through a PCR test despite having no recent travel history and was admitted to the hospital’s isolation facility.
Health officials are closely monitoring the patients and continue to urge people to seek medical evaluation if they experience symptoms linked to the disease.
