ISLAMABAD: Karachi Port’s connectivity with international liner shipping services has reached a record level, with its Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI) climbing to 343.02 in the second quarter of 2026.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the latest figure marked the highest PLSCI score recorded by Karachi Port during the period covered by the available data.
The index rose from 309.81 in the first quarter of 2026 to 343.02 in the second quarter, reflecting an increase of more than 10 percent in a single quarter.
The PLSCI measures a port’s integration into the global liner shipping network and draws on connectivity data covering around 900 ports worldwide, according to the minister.
Karachi Port’s index had stood at 329.24 in the second quarter of 2024 before slipping to 319.20 in the third quarter and 323.67 in the fourth quarter.
In 2025, the PLSCI was recorded at 321.70 in the first quarter and 321.84 in the second, before dropping to 298.56 in the third quarter. It recovered to 321.91 in the final quarter of the year.
The index then declined to 309.81 during the first quarter of 2026 before registering the latest record of 343.02.
Chaudhry also pointed to an improvement in Pakistan’s overall Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) ranking, which moved from 35th to 34th.
He said stronger links with international shipping networks could facilitate the movement of imports and exports, expand access to overseas markets and improve Pakistani businesses’ integration with global supply chains.
The minister said the government was pursuing measures to modernise port operations, improve services and facilitate shipping activity as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s maritime sector.
He added that Karachi Port’s improved connectivity would contribute to Pakistan’s regional and international trade links, while collaboration with port authorities, shipping lines and other stakeholders would continue to enhance maritime connectivity.
The minister said the latest PLSCI and LSCI figures reflected broader efforts to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of Pakistan’s ports and expand their role in international and regional trade.
