Kaghan man arrested for allegedly killing wife, staging death as mountain accident

MANSEHRA: Police have arrested a man accused of murdering his wife and attempting to conceal the crime by portraying her death as an accidental fall from a mountain in the Dheri Manwar area of Kaghan Valley.

According to police, the woman, who had married Rustam, son of Daplazir, around 10 months ago against her family’s wishes, was allegedly struck on the head with a stone before her body was placed in a manner intended to suggest that she had fallen from a mountain.

Her family was reportedly informed on August 12 that she had died after falling from a mountain. However, investigators later uncovered evidence suggesting that the death was not accidental.

Police said the alleged motive was linked to Rustam’s second marriage. The victim’s brother also alleged that his sister had been subjected to harsh treatment by her husband.

Kaghan SHO Sadaqat Khan, accompanied by police personnel and investigators, travelled to the remote and challenging crime scene. The team reportedly walked for nearly four hours before reaching the location and collected evidence as part of the investigation.

Police later arrested Rustam, who allegedly confessed during interrogation and took investigators to the alleged crime scene.

The suspect was presented before a court, where police said he again confessed to the killing. The court subsequently sent him to jail on judicial remand as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
