Islamabad declares public holidays on April 9,10

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has announced a two-day holiday, declaring April 9 and 10 as official leave days. During this period, all educational institutions, government offices, and private businesses within the federal capital will remain closed.

The official notification states that essential services, including hospitals, law enforcement agencies, and utility providers like IESCO and SNGPL, will continue to operate normally without any interruption.

“It is hereby declared that April 9th and 10th, 2026 (Thursday and Friday), will be observed as local holidays within the jurisdiction of Islamabad Capital Territory, excluding emergency and essential service offices such as MCI, CDA, ICT Administration, ICT Police, hospitals, and utility providers,” the announcement read.

This decision comes amid recent diplomatic developments, as Pakistan successfully mediated a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran amidst the ongoing tensions related to the US-Israel conflict in the region.Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that he has extended an invitation to the leadership of both nations to visit Islamabad on April 10 for further negotiations aimed at resolving outstanding issues.

“I sincerely thank the leaders of both countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, to continue discussions and work towards a lasting peace agreement,” PM Sharif stated in a message posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Pakistan, which has maintained a strategic and diplomatic role in the region, has recently emerged as an intermediary facilitating communication between Tehran and Washington. The country’s efforts are part of its broader commitment to regional stability.

“We remain hopeful that the talks in Islamabad will lead to sustainable peace, and we look forward to sharing positive developments in the coming days,” the Prime Minister added.
