RAWALPINDI: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday to exchange views on the latest regional developments amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
According to Iran’s state news agency, Araghchi also spoke separately with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Türkiye as part of Tehran’s diplomatic outreach over the evolving security situation.
During the discussions, the Iranian foreign minister cautioned the United States against taking any military action, warning that Tehran would respond forcefully to any aggression by Washington or Israel.
He also said Iran would react firmly if any country in the region assisted or participated in military operations against the Islamic Republic.
The diplomatic contacts came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he was postponing a planned strike on Iran, saying he was prepared to give diplomacy a chance if a swift agreement could be reached on Tehran’s nuclear programme and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran and several Middle Eastern countries had requested time to finalise an agreement that would immediately reopen the strategic waterway and eliminate what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat. He added that the proposed military action had been suspended for now, contingent on rapid progress in negotiations.
Trump also claimed Israel supported the decision, although Israeli authorities had not publicly commented on the statement.
Meanwhile, Iran reiterated its warning that any military move by the United States would trigger a decisive response. Araghchi conveyed the same message during separate calls with senior officials from Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, hours after Kuwait’s military reported intercepting and destroying drones allegedly launched from Iran toward key facilities.
