Iran reviewing U.S. 14-point plan as diplomatic talks enter critical phase

TEHRAN: Esmail Baghaei has confirmed that Iran is assessing a 14-point proposal presented by the United States, as bilateral discussions enter what he described as a decisive phase.

Speaking in an interview with an American broadcaster, Baghaei said Tehran is closely examining the proposed framework aimed at easing tensions and potentially bringing the conflict to an end.

At the same time, a report by Axios, quoting U.S. officials, indicated that negotiations may be approaching a breakthrough. The report suggested that both sides are working toward a brief memorandum of understanding that would stop hostilities and establish a basis for more detailed nuclear negotiations.

Under the reported plan, Iran could agree to a temporary halt in nuclear enrichment, while Washington may release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds. U.S. officials are said to be expecting Tehran’s response on key issues within the next two days.

Although no agreement has been finalized, sources described the current stage as the closest the two countries have come to reaching a deal since the conflict began.

Donald Trump has continued to signal optimism about the talks. Earlier, he introduced “Project Freedom” to help commercial shipping pass through the Strait of Hormuz, but the initiative was quickly put on hold after requests from mediators, including Pakistan.

If an agreement is reached, it would mark the end of hostilities and begin a 30-day negotiation period. Future discussions are expected to take place in Islamabad or Geneva.
