Imran Disqualification Case: CEC Passes Remarks To Imran’s Counsel, Don’t Interpret Law Of Your Choice

Islamabad: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja on Thursday remarked that until Speaker National Assembly were not sent resignations after accepting it, the member can’t be de-notify and in our view Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman is still MNA.

The five member commission headed by CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja started initial hearing of a reference seeking disqualification of the PTI chairman, filed by a five government MNAs of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) which included Mohsin Shahnawaz Raja.

Counsels Ishaq Khalid and assistant of Ali Zafar appeared before the court from petitioner and PTI respectively.

Ali Zafar associate counsel argued that chairman PTI Imran Khan no more remained a member of NA.

The CEC said that in our view Imran Khan is still a MNA as the NA secretariat didn’t send his resignation after approving it.

The CEC remarked with reference to the PTI counsel that to avoid interpretation of your choice adding that until resignation is not sent after approved by the NA speaker, the member can’t be de-notify.

The ECP ordering the PTI counsel to submit documents adjourned the hearing till August 22.
