Global condemnation over Israeli attack on humanitarian flotilla

ISLAMABAD: Diplomatic representatives from twelve nations, including Pakistan, have issued a strong rebuke against Israel for its recent military assault on the Global Sumud Flotilla. The flotilla, on its Spring 2026 mission, was attempting to break the Gaza blockade and deliver vital aid to civilians in need.

The incident occurred in international waters in the Mediterranean Sea, near Greece’s coast, when Israeli naval forces intercepted vessels participating in the peaceful humanitarian initiative. The joint statement from the Foreign Ministers of Türkiye, Brazil, Jordan, Pakistan, Spain, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Colombia, Maldives, South Africa, and Libya emphasized that the flotilla’s purpose was solely to highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The ministers condemned Israel’s actions, describing the attack and the detention of aid activists in international waters as serious violations of international and humanitarian law. They urged the global community to uphold legal and moral responsibilities by protecting civilians and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

In addition to diplomatic protests, widespread demonstrations erupted across Italy. Thousands gathered in cities like Rome, Milan, Naples, and Turin to denounce Israel’s assault on the aid convoy. The protests reflected growing public outrage over the incident and called for urgent international action to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
