D.I. KHAN: Four Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials were killed in an armed attack in Dera Ismail Khan, while a police constable was also martyred and another injured in a separate shooting incident, police said on Tuesday.
According to District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmed, unidentified armed assailants opened fire on FBR personnel near Abhaya Bridge. Four officials sustained fatal injuries in the attack.
The bodies were subsequently transported to the District Headquarters Hospital for medico-legal formalities, the police official said.
In a separate incident, gunmen targeted a police vehicle near Bannu Road, killing one constable and injuring another. Police launched a search operation in the surrounding area following the attack.
The latest incidents come amid a surge in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with authorities reporting an increase in attacks linked to cross-border militancy since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021.
Earlier on Tuesday, security sources said five India-backed militants were killed and two others wounded during an operation against militant hideouts in North Waziristan.
Pakistan also recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026.
Data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) showed that 225 militant attacks were reported across the country last month, compared with 199 in August, marking a 13% increase.
The think tank said militant attacks had risen for the third consecutive month.
