Floods and landslides in India claim 34 lives as death toll rises

WEB DESK: Heavy rains in India’s northeastern states have led to floods and landslides, resulting in the deaths of 34 people. Over the past four days, these disasters have claimed multiple lives.

Reports indicate that rescue teams are working to evacuate over a thousand tourists stranded in Sikkim, a Himalayan state, while military rescue teams have been deployed to evacuate more than 500 people stranded in flood-affected areas of Meghalaya.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted more heavy rains in the coming days, raising concerns that the situation may worsen. Local authorities and rescue agencies are actively engaged in relief efforts to prevent further loss of life.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, at least four members of a family were killed in a landslide in the northeastern district of Sylhet, while hundreds of shelters have been opened across the hilly districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari on Sunday.
