Female suicide bomber arrested in Islamabad; claims coercion, blackmail by militants

ISLAMABAD: Security forces have reportedly thwarted a major terror attempt in Islamabad after arresting a woman accused of being prepared for a suicide attack, who says she was forced and blackmailed by militants allegedly linked to the Balochistan Liberation Army.

The suspect, Khair-un-Nisa from Turbat, stated during interrogation that she was psychologically pressured and threatened by extremist elements to carry out the planned attack.

She alleged that her cousin coerced her by threatening harm to her father if she refused to comply. According to her account, she was repeatedly taken blindfolded to remote mountainous areas where armed individuals attempted to indoctrinate her.

Khair-un-Nisa further claimed that militants used the example of other female suicide attackers to manipulate her mentally. She said she initially believed she was only assisting with minor tasks such as delivering food and mobile phone cards, but later realized she was being groomed for a suicide mission.

She also alleged that she continued receiving instructions even while undergoing medical treatment in Hub.

Describing her background, she said she comes from a financially struggling family and stayed silent due to fear for her relatives’ safety. Her father reportedly works as a driver.

Following the arrest of her cousin, she said she destroyed her mobile phone out of fear of being traced or exposed.

The suspect added that she was taken into protective custody by police, who treated her respectfully and relocated her to a secure facility.“I never wanted to become a suicide bomber. I was threatened and blackmailed,” she reportedly told investigators, urging other young women not to fall into the hands of extremist groups.

She expressed a desire to pursue education and become either a doctor or teacher, saying her real aspiration was to live a normal life.“Surviving this situation is a blessing. I was being forced into something I never chose,” she said.
