ISLAMABAD: The federal government will present the Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 12, according to media reports.
Separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate have been convened for Wednesday, while the budget will be tabled a day later. The budget was initially scheduled to be presented on June 10 but was postponed due to consultations between the PML-N-led government and its coalition partner, the PPP.
Sources said the Economic Survey has yet to be unveiled, and the federal cabinet must approve the budget proposals before they are formally presented in Parliament.
The government is also planning to fast-track the budget process by shortening the parliamentary debate to ensure its timely passage before the observance of the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Officials said the revised schedule is intended to complete all legislative formalities ahead of the religious holidays. An official announcement regarding the updated timetable is expected after the cabinet grants its approval.
The delay follows the PPP’s request for additional time to examine the proposed budget measures, with the federal government assuring the party that its recommendations would be taken into consideration during the budget-making process.
