PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a stern warning on Tuesday, cautioning that any attempt by enemies to obstruct water supplies to Pakistan will face severe repercussions.
Speaking at a tribal jirga in Peshawar, he emphasized, “India’s threats to halt water flow are unacceptable. The enemies have already experienced the consequences of provoking conflict. Every drop of water belongs to the people of Pakistan and must reach them.”He highlighted his recent diplomatic visits to four countries, where he observed positive sentiments and expressed confidence in Pakistan’s economic trajectory. “With Allah’s blessings, we will secure economic victory just as we have achieved military success,” he asserted.
The Prime Minister lauded the efforts of Pakistan’s armed forces under the leadership of Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir, stating, “Under his command, our forces have demonstrated strength and resilience, teaching the enemy a lesson they will remember.”Addressing the attendees, Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the bravery and patriotism of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying, “KP is a proud and noble province. Its people have always stood tall for Pakistan’s sovereignty and have made sacrifices of the highest order. Their resilience, especially after the tragic APS attack, will be remembered in golden letters.”
He also discussed the longstanding issue of the NFC Award, urging for its revision: “It has been 15 years since the last NFC Award. I have instructed the formation of a committee to review and address this matter. The provincial representatives have submitted their recommendations, and we will work towards a fair resolution.”On counter-terrorism efforts, the Prime Minister acknowledged KP’s frontline role: “KP has been at the forefront of the war against terrorism. Over Rs700 billion in funds have been allocated to support the province’s efforts, alongside Balochistan, which has also faced terrorist threats.”Looking ahead, Shehbaz Sharif committed to prioritizing KP’s development: “A dedicated committee will be formed to address KP-related issues. We will approach these matters with the seriousness they deserve and seek consensus among all stakeholders.”
Recalling past conflicts with India, he reflected, “During the war with India, the entire nation’s prayers were with our armed forces. I was informed by the field marshal that India launched an attack at 2:30 a.m., and we responded with resilience and resolve.”
