GILGIT: The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the final roster of candidates contesting the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections, with 403 individuals officially entering the electoral race.
According to the released figures, 272 candidates will contest as independents, while 131 are affiliated with various political parties.
The upcoming elections will also feature eight female candidates. Among them, five are running independently, while the remaining candidates represent the Pakistan Peoples Party, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, and Pakistan National Party.
Among major political groups, Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians has nominated 23 candidates, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-N with 22 candidates. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam has fielded 9 contenders, while Islami Tehreek Pakistan has entered 10 candidates into the race.
Other participating parties include Jamaat-e-Islami with 6 candidates, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen with 7, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement with 6 candidates. The Awami Workers Party has nominated 4 candidates.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League has fielded 11 candidates, whereas Pakistan Muslim League-Q has entered one contender.
Several smaller parties are also participating with one candidate each, including the Awami National Party, Awami Pakistan, Central Muslim League, Tehreek Tahafuz Pakistan Party, Sunni Ittehad Council, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan, and PPP Tower Group.
