ECP Postpones Local Bodies Elections In Karachi for Third Time

Islamabad: Election Commission Of Pakistan (ECP) today postponed second phase of local bodies elections in seven districts of Karachi for third time.

The ECP has cancelled the local bodies elections after a letter sent by the federal government

The decision was taken in a high level meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The huddle under the CEC reviewed the letter sent by the federal government.

Sindh government had demanded the ECP deployment of 16000 security personnel for ensuring security in the local bodies elections in seven districts of Karachi under the second phase of local bodies elections.

The ECP had postponed the local bodies elelctions in Karachi August 24 this for the first time, latter September 29 date was given by the ECP for holding of local bodies election. On Sindh government demand, the elections were again postponed and October 23 date was fixed for the elections and today it has been postponed again.

The first phase of local bodies elections was held in interior Sindh in May this year.

It is pertinent to mention here that the first phase of local bodies elections in Sindh June 26 this year.
