ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set December 20, 2026, as the date for Islamabad’s local government elections under the 2015 law.
The nomination process will begin with a public notice on October 30. Candidates can file nomination papers from November 2 to 6, and the list of nominees will be released the next day. Scrutiny is scheduled for November 9–13.
Appeals against returning officers’ decisions may be submitted from November 14 to 18, with rulings due between November 19 and 23. The final candidate list will be published on November 25, and election symbols will be allotted on November 26.
Polling will run from 8am to 4pm. The ECP expects to announce results between December 21 and 24.
The commission has made its prior approval necessary for transfers and postings of government officials in Islamabad. It also said the electoral code of conduct would be enforced to support a fair and transparent vote. ECP and returning officers’ offices will remain open despite the public holiday to handle election-related work.
