NEW YORK: President of the United Nations General Assembly, Dennis Francis, has endorsed Pakistan’s position that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to achieve peace.
Pakistani delegation led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with the President of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York. Bilawal Bhutto briefed the President on the deteriorating security situation in the region following the Pahalgam incident.
He emphasized that, sustainable peace in South Asia is not possible without a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The former Foreign Minister further stated that the international community should play its role in restoring the Indus Waters Treaty and initiating a comprehensive dialogue between Pakistan and India.
The President of the UN General Assembly appreciated Pakistan’s continued engagement with the United Nations.
He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only path to peace, and underlined the need to uphold the UN Charter and international law.
