PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has disclosed that consultations have been held over the possibility of imposing governor’s rule in the province.
Talking to reporters in Peshawar, Kundi said the imposition of governor’s rule was provided for under the Constitution and could not be termed unconstitutional. He noted that there had been several instances of governor’s rule being imposed in the country in the past.
“There is a possibility of governor’s rule, and the Constitution provides room for it,” the governor said.
Kundi also criticised the provincial government over its handling of the police force, saying KP police personnel were receiving relatively low salaries compared with other provinces.
He called for better facilities, incentives and financial support for police officials, adding that the force needed greater attention from the provincial authorities.
The governor alleged that the KP government was seeking to bring the police under its direct control, claiming that a similar attempt had been made during the tenure of a former chief minister.
Commenting on PTI’s proposed long march towards Islamabad, Kundi questioned the party’s preparations for the planned protest.
He claimed that PTI lawmakers from the National and Provincial assemblies were already present in Islamabad but were not actively involved in preparations for the march.
Kundi further alleged that some PTI workers were voluntarily offering themselves for arrest, saying the party appeared to be facing difficulties in mobilising its workers.
He also suggested that PTI could withdraw or postpone the planned long march within the next one or two days.
