CHARSADDA: Investigators have made significant progress in the case involving the killing of religious scholar Maulana Muhammad Idrees, with police confirming that one suspect has been identified and images of the alleged attackers have been obtained.
According to officials, CCTV footage played a key role in tracing individuals linked to the incident, helping authorities narrow down a suspected network believed to be associated with a banned outfit.
Police said the statement of the scholar’s driver has also been recorded as part of the ongoing investigation. Efforts are underway to analyse mobile phone data collected from the crime scene, with technical support being sought from relevant agencies.
Authorities are additionally reviewing possible links to suspects involved in earlier high-profile cases in the Mardan region.
Investigators have begun mapping individuals who may have tracked Maulana Muhammad Idrees’s vehicle before the attack, while verification of the identified suspect’s background continues.
Law enforcement agencies say the inquiry is still active and expanding, as they work to dismantle the network believed to be behind the targeted killing.
