Blast in Lakki Marwat leaves seven dead, eighteen Injured

LAKKI MARWAT: A deadly explosion struck the Serai Naurang area of Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday, killing at least seven people, among them two traffic police officers, and injuring more than 18 others, officials confirmed.

According to district police spokesperson Qudratullah Khan, the injured included a woman and a teenage girl. Several critically wounded victims were shifted to hospitals in Bannu for medical treatment.

Police identified the martyred officers as Adil Jan and Rahatullah.

Authorities said the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Initial reports suggest the blast may have been triggered either by an improvised explosive device concealed inside a loader rickshaw or by a suicide attacker. Bomb disposal experts have been called in to determine the nature of the attack.

At the time of the incident, traffic police personnel were reportedly deployed at the crowded intersection to manage vehicle movement on the route connecting Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Following the explosion, police teams headed by the DSP of Naurang Circle rushed to the scene, sealed off the area, and began gathering forensic evidence. Rescue 1122 personnel also arrived promptly and transported the injured and deceased to nearby healthcare facilities.

Officials stated that investigations are continuing, while security measures across the area have been intensified.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the incident and expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives. He urged the provincial authorities to adopt effective measures to strengthen law and order and ensure lasting peace in the province. He also stressed that those involved in acts of terrorism deserve no concession.

Separately, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi sought a detailed report from the Inspector General of Police regarding the incident in the Serai Naurang market area.

The chief minister termed the deaths of the two traffic police officers and five civilians a major tragedy and assured the affected families of the government’s complete support. He also directed officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured and accelerate the investigation into the attack.
