Bangladesh clinched victory by defending a 154-run target against Oman in Group B match of Twenty20 World Cup on Tuesday.
Batting first, Bangladesh piled up a total of 153 runs which the host team were unable to achieve. The host team fell behind 26 runs at the end of 20th over.
Naim Sheikh (64) smashed a thrilling half century for Bangladesh while Shakib Al Hasan remained the second best scorer securing 42 off 29 balls.
Bangladesh lost an early wicket of Liton Das (6) in the hands of B Khan at 2.5 overs. However, Oman kept dropping catches in the early overs that resulted in the form of a good second-wicket partnership for Bangladesh.
A partnership of 80 runs between Shakib Al Hasan and M Naim led Bangladesh towards a competitive total of 153 runs. Fayaz Ahmed and Bilal Khan stood out as bowlers for Oman dismissing three Bangladesh players each.
In the chase, the host team dismantled with the dismissal of Jatinder Singh who contributed 40 runs off 33 balls. Oman kept losing wickets after a 34-run partnership between Singh and Maqsood. Seven of the Oman players couldn t enter in the double figures.
