Balochistan govt denounces killings of poet, female police officer

QUETTA: The Balochistan government has denounced the killings of Brahvi poet and academic Prof. Ghamkhwar Hayat and Lady Constable Shakeela, describing the attacks as ruthless acts of terrorism targeting innocent citizens.

Shahid Rind, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister, expressed grief over the incidents in Turbat and Noshki, where armed assailants also injured the constable’s husband and son during the attack.

He said attacks on women, children, and teachers reflected the brutality of militant groups and vowed that those responsible would be held accountable. Referring to the killing of Prof. Ghamkhwar Hayat, Rind termed it an attack on the province’s intellectual and cultural identity, adding that enemies of education and knowledge would not succeed in their objectives.

According to Rind, terrorists are attempting to create fear by targeting scholars, women, and civilians, but the provincial government and security institutions remain committed to eradicating militancy from the region.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant for the Home Department Babar Yousafzai also strongly condemned the incidents, saying extremist elements had now intensified attacks against educators, women officers, and ordinary citizens in Balochistan.

He called the killing of Lady Constable Shakeela in front of children a horrifying act of terrorism and said such groups had no respect for human life, including the safety of women and innocence of children.

Yousafzai stated that the people of Balochistan and security forces stood united in the fight against terrorism and warned that militant networks would soon face defeat.

He further noted that firing 31 bullets at an unarmed family exposed the cruelty and inhumanity of the attackers. Despite such violence, he said, the morale and bravery of women police officers remained strong and the campaign against terrorism would continue without interruption.

Concerns have also emerged regarding the reported abduction of Gwadar University vice chancellors Dr. Razaq Sabir and Dr. Manzoor, amid fears that militants are attempting to undermine the education sector in the province.
