BAHAWALPUR: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab has arrested a 17-year-old student in Bahawalpur for allegedly attempting to poison his father after seeking instructions from an artificial intelligence chatbot.
The arrest was made on the directives of NCCIA Punjab Director Hussam bin Iqbal after the agency received intelligence from abroad, according to officials.
Investigators said the teenager had allegedly set up a makeshift laboratory at home, reportedly inspired by the crime drama Breaking Bad, where he experimented with chemicals obtained from Australia and Islamabad.
According to the investigation, the teenager allegedly sought assistance from an AI chatbot after an earlier attempt to poison his father was unsuccessful.
The case has prompted renewed concerns over the potential misuse of AI tools by minors and the difficulty of identifying harmful online interactions involving young users.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning attempt and the teenager’s use of digital platforms.
