Attock petroleum offers Rs5 per liter discount on petrol at selected stations

ISLAMABAD: Attock Petroleum has introduced a Rs5 per liter reduction on petrol at its designated fuel outlets as part of an effort to provide some relief to consumers facing rising fuel costs.

The ongoing escalation in petrol and diesel prices nationwide has placed significant financial strain on consumers, especially those with fixed incomes like salaried workers, who are already grappling with increasing living expenses. In some regions, the cost of high-octane fuel has climbed to between Rs500 and Rs600 per liter, heightening concerns about affordability.

Although international market fluctuations influence fuel prices, Pakistani regulations keep retail rates relatively consistent across the country. Oil companies are prohibited from selling petrol and diesel above the government-set rates.

In response, Attock Petroleum has adopted a new approach by offering a Rs5 per liter discount at select locations to ease the financial burden. The company clarified that this discount applies exclusively to its company-operated petrol stations.

The initiative does not extend to dealer-operated outlets, leading to varied reactions among consumers. Attock Petroleum operates roughly 45 stations nationwide, primarily in major urban centers and along motorway highways, all clearly marked as company-owned.

Meanwhile, the prices of high-octane fuel remain fully deregulated, resulting in noticeable price differences among various companies. Reports indicate that following a levy hike, high-octane fuel prices surged to about Rs600 per liter. However, recent price reductions by global energy giant Aramco and increased competition in the market have contributed to a downward trend in rates.
