KARACHI: Veteran actress Atiqa Odho has expressed disappointment with the screenplay of the popular drama Zanjeerain, arguing that its storyline ignores basic logic and realistic consequences.
Commenting on the series, Odho questioned the complete absence of law enforcement and state institutions despite the serious crimes depicted throughout the plot.
“Zanjeerain seems to take place in a world where there are no police, army, Rangers, or any authorities. People are poisoned, murders happen, a young woman disappears, yet nobody even considers launching a search. The lack of institutional presence makes the story feel disconnected from reality. It almost seems as if the characters are living on another planet rather than in Pakistan. Someone dies, someone goes missing, and life simply carries on. Even though the drama has a strong central premise, this is one of its biggest flaws.”
Odho clarified that her criticism was aimed at the writing rather than the cast’s performances. She argued that the script repeatedly overlooks how authorities would realistically respond to major crimes, making the unfolding events difficult for viewers to accept.
Her comments have reignited debate on social media. While many viewers agreed that the drama has increasingly prioritized shocking twists over believable storytelling, others defended the serial, saying it is a fictional production designed solely to entertain.
The discussion adds to the mixed reception Zanjeerain has received in recent weeks. Although the drama continues to attract impressive ratings and remains among television’s most-watched series, its screenplay has faced growing scrutiny from both critics and audiences.
