ISLAMABAD: Security forces killed 11 militants in two separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, security sources said on Saturday.
According to the sources, the operations were conducted in South Waziristan district of KP and the Gorinder-Mashkel area of Balochistan as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
In South Waziristan, security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation targeting suspected hideouts of Fitna al-Khawarij.
Five militants were killed during the operation, while their hideouts were destroyed, the sources said. A quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the site.
In a separate operation in Balochistan, security forces targeted militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan in the Gorinder-Mashkel area under Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3.
Security sources said militants attacked a checkpost in the area before attempting to escape. Troops responded to the attack and killed six militants while they were trying to flee.
The operations come amid a rise in militant violence in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power in 2021.
Pakistan recorded its highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years in September 2026, according to data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The Islamabad-based think tank reported 225 militant attacks across the country during September, up from 199 in August, representing a 13% increase. The number of attacks has risen for the third consecutive month.
Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.
Pakistan maintains that Kabul has not taken sufficient action against groups allegedly responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil, while Afghan authorities have rejected the allegations.
Several rounds of talks between the two countries have failed to resolve the dispute, with the presence and activities of militant groups in Afghanistan remaining a key source of tension between Islamabad and Kabul.
